My name is Christine Long and I am really excited to introduce myself as the K-5 Principal of Blue Ridge School. I am honored to have been selected to join this amazing district, which is known far and wide for its dedication to excellence, but more importantly, to children. Over the past 15 years, I have served other great districts as a principal, elementary instructional coach, teacher and leader, but I consider my most important job to be that of a child advocate. I will spend a lot of time with your children, getting to know their personalities, learning styles and interests. I will celebrate their successes, small and large. I will encourage them every day and let them know they are valued and have a special place in our hearts and in our school community.
Not only am I excited to begin working with your children, but I look forward to the work we will do together. Together we will work hard to continue the legacy of success established at Blue Ridge by building strong relationships with parents, students, staff and community partners. We will focus on the use of data to inform instruction, Responsive Classrooms to emphasize academic, social and emotional growth, and provide exciting and challenging enrichment opportunities that focus on assuring the rigor of instruction in meeting the Georgia Standards of Excellence. We will continue our series of Parent Academic Team meetings to ensure that parents are informed of their child’s academic performance, and to provide parents with activities that will support and enhance their learning at home.
As the old African Proverb states, “It takes a village to raise a child.” I am excited to see your children through your eyes. I cannot wait to share with you the great things they do throughout their days here at Blue Ridge School. My goal is to ensure that all children are healthy, happy and safe, so they may learn as much as they can. This has been my philosophy since I began my career in teaching. I began my career in Georgia having taught 10th and 12th grade English, 3rd grade and assisting with writing K-12 Science curriculum for the Georgia Department of Education.I served as a third grade teacher in Erie, Pennsylvania before making my way to Central Pennsylvania.I taught in grades 3-5, and worked as the district’s instructional coach before assuming the role of K-5 Principal and Title 1 Coordinator. But my greatest achievement comes not professionally, but personally, as I am the mother of two amazing children, ages 10 and 12! Please know that I will work tirelessly to ensure all of your children have the best possible experiences while attending Blue Ridge School.
During the course of the year, it is my hope that we will work together to provide our students the best opportunities in preparing for the world, ready to master challenges placed in their path. I truly believe that teamwork makes the dream work! As your principal, my door is always open and I welcome your input. Please feel free to stop in or call to make an appointment to discuss your concerns, suggestions, or ideas to help make this year the absolute best it can be!
