Parking and Dismissal Procedures

Map highlighting our dismissal procedures

I wanted to let you know about an upcoming change in our afternoon dismissal process. In order to make our processes safer for students, staff and families, we are moving the student pickup location to behind the school near the cafeteria, effective Tuesday, February 18, 2020. This change will provide more space for cars to line up on campus in the car rider line and keep more cars from blocking the roads during dismissal. Parents will pick up their students who are car riders in the afternoon in the same area where they currently drop off their students in the morning. Please follow the traffic pattern.

Cars are asked to enter the school area from Straight Street and turn on to Bogle Street to reach Blue Ridge Street, which runs behind the school by the cafeteria. Cars will not be allowed to enter the parking lot of the school off of Straight Street between 3:00 pm and 3:45 pm.

Students who ride buses will load at the front of the school in the afternoon and no cars will be allowed to park in the parking lot in front of the school after 3:00 pm. To ensure student safety, we will be dismissing students who walk home at 3:45 pm after the buses have loaded and left the school. Students who are walk accompanied will be dismissed first, followed by those students who are walk alone. Parents of students who walk home may wait for their students under the front entrance of the school leaving space for bus riders to get on buses.

Anyone who needs to visit the school between 3:00 pm and 3:45 pm must park at the Mack Gaston Community Center on Fredrick Street and walk to the school. Cars will not be permitted to park on the side of the street.

Our first priority is to ensure the safety of all of our Blue Ridge students and staff. It is important that everyone use patience and extreme caution during the dismissal process. We hope these changes will help get students home safely and more efficiently. Should you have any questions about this new traffic pattern, please feel free to contact the office at 706-876-4100. Thank you for your continued support.

Respectfully,

Principal Long
