Out of an abundance of caution, all student activities and athletic events scheduled for Saturday, January 31st, and Sunday, February 1st, have been canceled, including both home and away contests, as well as extracurricular events and any district-sponsored weekend programs.

At this time, after-school events will continue as scheduled today, Friday, January 30, unless otherwise communicated.

Dear Dalton Public Schools Families and Community,

To support the safety and well-being of our students, staff, and families, Dalton Public Schools will operate on a 2-hour delay on Tuesday, January 27, 2026.

Students will begin the school day two hours later than their normal start time, and school buses will also operate on a two-hour delay from their usual routes. We ask families to please be mindful of cold temperatures and ensure students are dressed appropriately. Bus routes may take slightly longer than usual as drivers use extra care to ensure safe transportation.

Students will have the option to receive a grab-and-go breakfast upon arrival Tuesday morning.

All afterschool activities will continue as normally scheduled.

Dalton Public Schools staff members should check their email for additional information regarding the delayed start.

Dear Dalton Public Schools Families,

Out of an abundance of caution due to the potential of icy roads and other hazardous winter weather conditions, Dalton Public Schools has made the decision to designate Monday, January 26, as a weather day.

Please note that this will not be a digital learning day. Students will not be expected to complete assignments or participate in online instruction on Monday.

As a proactive measure, student devices and chargers were sent home on Friday, January 23, should winter weather conditions extend into the new week. While devices will not be needed for learning on Monday, we appreciate your help in keeping them safe and ready for use when students return to school.

BIG WINS IN JUST ONE SEMESTER: In just its first semester, the Dalton Public Schools Cyber Academy is already changing lives and redefining what’s possible for our students.

✨ 24 students graduated early
✨ 23 juniors advanced to senior status
✨ 15 students are earning college credit through dual enrollment

Serving 175 students, the Cyber Academy is opening doors through flexible, student-centered pathways that support early graduation, credit recovery, and re-engagement in learning.

Dear Dalton Public Schools Families,

As we approach the upcoming weekend, Dalton Public Schools is closely monitoring the weather forecast and any potential impacts it may have on school operations. The safety of our students and staff remains our top priority.

At this time, school will be in session as scheduled on Friday, January 23. No decisions have been made regarding school operations for the week of January 26–30. We will continue to monitor conditions closely and will communicate with families as soon as updates are available.

To help families prepare, students will be asked to bring their school-issued devices and chargers’ home on Friday, January 23, in case they are needed. Please remind your child to take care of these items and keep them in a safe place at home.

In addition, our cafeterias will be preparing a bag of snacks for each student to take home on Friday, if they would like.

🐾 Little Cats Pop-Up Classes! 🐾

Families with young learners are invited to join us for Little Cats Pop-Up Classes at the Beechland Resource Center this spring! These sessions are designed to support DPS families by providing an opportunity to experience the Little Cats Program ahead of the 2026-2027 school year.

These free pop-up classes are ideal for families who are interested in enrolling a child who will be turning 3 years old by September 1, 2026.

On January 14, Dalton High School Drama students kicked off an exciting day at Dalton Little Theatre alongside Fox Theatre representatives, beginning with hands-on workshops and the opportunity to present their marketing proposals to members of Dalton Little Theatre’s board. After a successful morning of collaboration and professional experience, students then traveled to the Artistic Civic Theatre to continue the day with additional immersive workshops, showcasing their creativity, professionalism, and passion for the performing arts.

Today, students and staff are out of school in celebration of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. We encourage all of our students, staff, and families to take some time today to learn about and remember the life and legacy of Dr. King.

Let us all remember this great man whose efforts to stand up to injustice and end segregation brought about peaceful change in our country. We will see all of our students back in class tomorrow!

Torres serves as the Exceptional Student Services (ESS) Specially Designed Class teacher for grades K–2 at Westwood. She brings more than 16 years of experience in education to her role and has served Dalton Public Schools as a paraprofessional, classroom teacher, administrator, and instructional leader.
