World Down Syndrome Day is celebrated globally each year on March 21 (3/21). The date represents Trisomy 21, the genetic condition that causes Down syndrome, where individuals have three copies of the 21st chromosome instead of two.

Since March 21 falls on a Saturday this year, PAWZ would love for our school to celebrate on Friday, March 20 by participating in the “Lots of Socks” tradition. Students and staff are encouraged to wear bright, colorful, or mismatched socks to celebrate differences and show support for individuals with Down syndrome.

The reason socks are used is because chromosomes can resemble the shape of socks. The extra chromosome in Trisomy 21 is represented by wearing fun or mismatched socks to spark conversations and raise awareness.

Celebrating this day helps promote inclusion, understanding, and appreciation for the abilities and uniqueness of all students.  One of our own City Park family members is featured on the graphic below.

Thank you for helping celebrate and support such a wonderful community of learners.  Please contact Ms. Chesni Collins for more information or to share your photos at chesni.collins@dalton.k12.ga.us

We are thrilled to welcome Air Elite Acrobatic Slam Dunk Team to City Park Elementary for our next Paws & Applause assembly on Friday, March 13 at 9:00 AM, where we’ll be celebrating our Pawsitive Panthers for Creativity!

Air Elite is an acrobatic trampoline slam dunk team known for their high-flying stunts and dynamic performances that amaze audiences across the country! They aren’t just about incredible athletic skills — their shows are designed to inspire and motivate students by teaching important character traits like teamwork, respect, leadership, responsibility, and a positive attitude.

As our Panthers are recognized for using their imagination and thinking creatively, Air Elite’s performance will show students how practice, creative problem-solving, and a growth mindset can help them reach new heights — both physically and in their learning! Whether it’s in writing, art, reading, or everyday problem-solving, creativity helps us push boundaries and try new things.

This is sure to be an unforgettable celebration of creativity and Panther Pride! Be sure to check out their highlight reels at this link: https://aedunkersatl.com/
